Our School
Queens Park Lower School is one of the largest lower schools in Bedford – Bedfordshire organise their schools in the three tier structure – lower (years N – 4), middle (years 5-8), upper (years 9-13).
In January 2004 the school admitted children from a closing neighbouring school – Marlborough Lower. In September 2004 the school reorganised itself to accommodate the Foundation Stage on the Early Years site (Marlborough Road) and Years 1 to 4 on the Chestnut Avenue site.
The facilities on the Early Years site are excellent, with appropriate accommodation, including a large hall, for our youngest children.
On the Chestnut Avenue site there are 12 classrooms, a hall, library and ICT suite accommodating children in years 1 to 4. On both sites the development of the outside environment is a priority and has recently been resourced with large play equipment and an outside ‘classroom’ that includes a pond and environmental area. We opened the Little Sanctuary in 2008 – a nurturing space for small groups of children.
Our school is a member of the Bedford Learning Community and a founder member of the Excellence Cluster (previously the Bedford Education Action Zone – BEAZ). The school is one third of the Bedfordshire’s first Full Service Extended School, together with Westfield Middle and Biddenham Upper School. The school also has a Children’s Centre on site jointly managed by a Partnership board consisting of members from all three school communities and the LA officer responsible for children’s centres. These four elements make up the Queens Park Neighbourhood Centre.
The principal aim of the school is
To help the children to develop the attitudes, knowledge and skills needed for living in the 21st Century
- by offering the children first hand experiences that motivate and enthuse them - encouraging a love of learning
- by ensuring the provision of good quality teaching
- through positive identification of indicators of good practice
We express our core value in the Mission Statement:
“An Adventure in Learning Together”
This is then realised by our school aims:

- To develop a curriculum that excites and motivates the learner and the teacher.
- To promote high levels of self esteem in children and adults
- To leave no-one behind
- To promote a safe and healthy lifestyle
- To promote community engagement and involvement
- To continue to strive for improvement by critical self evaluation
- To develop a team environment
Everyone who works in our school is expected to be familiar with the school aims positively encouraging their implementation. The mission statement and aims are shared with parents and the wider community in all aspect of school publicity
The strategic plan gives further details of the five strategic intents recognised by the governing body fundamental to its high aspirations for the school.
