Welcome to the Early Years

Early Years Site

We feel very privileged on the Early Years Site at Queens Park lower School to have a lovely building with a large hall for our assemblies, P.E. and special events with parents.

We also have exclusive use of large grounds with trees, exciting play equipment and a new, large sandpit.

The two nursery classes also have an enclosed play area.

The Nursery

The children can start in the nursery for a morning or afternoon session in the term after they are three.

We encourage a lively and active approach to learning and the children will explore and experiment during their indoor and outdoor activities.

Painting, cooking, modelling, singing, drawing and listening to stories are some of the activities which the children enjoy at nursery.

Reception

The children progress to Reception after their nursery experience and follow the same active approach to learning. During the year  however, they will begin more focused work in Literacy and Numeracy following the national strategies. They will begin to have more structured P.E lessons and will have a school book bag to take home a library books.

During the year we try to have lots of visits to and from the main site to make transition into Year 1 easier for them.

Our latest news...

We have had an exciting time on the Early Years Site this term.

We had a joint Eid/ harvest celebration in October. The children in the nursery sang some songs to the parents and the children in Reception performed The Little Red Hen. Lots of parents came to watch and brought some lovely food for us to share afterwards.

In November we had our Diwali Open day. The parents came in to work with the children on fun activities. We made masks, divas, rangoli patterns and also cooked biscuits. The staff were very pleased with the number of parents who participated. After the activities we all watched a video about the meaning of Diwali and shared some food.

Healthy week was very enjoyable as we borrowed a play dentists chair to help the children to learn to look after their teeth. Our daily session of aerobic exercise was enjoyed by staff and children alike and everyone made delicious fruit kebabs.

We are now practising for our Christmas play  The Sleepy Shepherd. We are hoping to have a big audience of parents and governors and Years 3 and 4. There will be two performances  on December 14th at 10:00 a.m and 2:00 p.m. The children are working so hard to learn all the songs and it will be a wonderful day.
