School Achievement Assemblies
Celebration Assembly
Every Friday we hold a celebration assembly. This is an important end to the week as many of the children are rewarded for specific effort or behaviour. Each class teacher will nominate one member of the class to be the star of the week and their picture is taken and displayed in the entrance hall. They receive a ‘Star of the Week’ badge that they keep and during the week teachers and children acknowledge their achievements in a variety of ways.
In 2007/8 we introduced a Value Star of the Week. Each week a child is chosen by the children in their class to be the ‘value' star of the week. Their name is displayed on our assembly notice board for all to see. These values are shared not only by everyone at Queens Park Lower, but also by the children at Westfield Middle School and Biddenham Upper School.
From time to time we celebrate other events at schools – be they academic or behaviour, sport or music or any achievement that we want to acknowledge. We are trying to create an ethos of high aspiration and achievement that encourages all our learners to be their best.
Throughout the year we hold special assemblies to celebrate national events, religious holidays or significant historical dates. Our newsletter will give families and visitors all these details and we hope that from time to time you will join us.
At the end of the year we will be holding a Celebration Finale to acknowledge the achievements of our Year 4 as they move on to their next school.
In 2007/8 we also introduced the World Cup. We have a World Family structure. Every member of our school community is a member of one of the world families. Each week we celebrate the family that has earned the most golden minutes. At the end of each term the winning world family receives a special treat and at the end of the year a trophy will be awarded! The world families are Africa, Asia, Australia and America.
